08/14/2002 Entry: "zwemmen"

De scholen zijn weer begonnen en de eerste ergernissen rollen hier weer binnen. Ik ga u even op de hoogte brengen van ergernis 4-C. De rest zal ik u besparen.

Kind-I zit op zwemles. Al anderhalf jaar. Aangezien ik een behoorlijk trauma heb overgehouden aan mijn zwemles van vroeger (schreeuwende badmeesters, krengen van badmeesteressen, teveel kinderen op 1 hoop en niet te vergeten: DE HAAK) hebben wij Kind-I op een speciaal, klein zwemschooltje gedaan. Je moet een jaar op een plaats wachten dus enige poeha kleeft er wel aan maar dan heb je ook wat: een zwembad in een revalidatie-centrum (dus warm), kleine groepjes kinderen, veel individuele aandacht en de nadruk op zwem plezier in plaats van snelsnelsnel-naar het-diploma. Het enige nadeel is de dag en het tijdstip. Zondagmiddag om 12.00 uur weet ik persoonlijk leukere dingen te doen maar alla, alles went.

Nu is het woensdag, de derde schooldag van het nieuwe jaar en vandaag krijgt Kind-I een briefje mee dat hij morgen in zwemkledij wordt verwacht om aan het schoolzwemmen te kunnen deelnemen.
Opgewekt liepen wij naar de juf om te melden dat ons kind elders sinds anderhalf jaar geheel op eigen kracht en tempo zijn zwemdiploma's bij elkaar aan het sprokkelen is. "Dat schoolzwemmen, dat hoeft dus niet, dank u voor het aanbod."
"Schoolzwemmen is verplicht ."
"Parrrdon?"
"Ik kan er ook niets aan doen, schoolzwemmen is door Het Ministerie van Onderwijs verplicht voor alle kinderen vanaf groep 4 van de basisschool."

Onze argumenten dat 2 manieren van lesgeven wellicht verwarring kan opleveren, dat wij sommige dingen best graag zelf willen bepalen en dat wij niet willen, deden niet ter zake. Juf staat machteloos en wij moeten slikken. Hoezee voor het Nederlandse Onderwijssysteem.
Datzelfde systeem dat kinderen te vaak naar huis stuurt bij gebrek aan juf of meester. Dat systeem dat kinderen vanaf de kleuterleeftijd een soort van Carriere injaagt door 4-jarigen aan een CITO-toets te onderwerpen. Je zal toch poffedorie op je 4-de al achterlopen zeg! Dat moeten we goed-in-de-gaten-houden! Dat overspannen systeem dat botweg "NEE" zegt als je denkt dat het je kind goed zal doen een dagje thuis te blijven om even in z'n eentje te rommelen en bij te komen van al het gedoe op school. Het systeem dat je leert te liegen en kinderen vaker als ziek op de lijst ziet staan dan in werkelijkheid het geval is. Schoolziek is een zeer oude ziekte waar af en toe, en met grondige reden of goede intuitie, zeker aan toe moet worden gegeven.
En ergens in Den Haag heeft iemand bedacht dat kinderen moeten schoolzwemmen.

Na een uitbarsting (van mij) en hartgrondig gevloek (van vader) hebben wij geprobeerd van deze opdringerigheid de Voordelen te ontdekken en te Relativeren. Daar zijn wij best goed in. "Elk nadeel hep sun voordeel" Want: als je op muziekles zit moet je ook nog steeds muziekles op school volgen. Als je op atletiek zit, moet je nog steeds gewoon met gym meedoen. En het schoolzwemmen vindt plaats in het Zuiderbad, en het Zuiderbad is het mooiste zwembad van Amsterdam. En zo verder. (ziet u: best behoorlijk gelukt, dat relativeren)

Maar ik ben er niet blij mee. Ik hou niet zo van M.O.E.T.E.N. en V.E.R.P.L.I.C.H.T. Als ik niet zo moe was schreef ik die brief aan de Gemeente nu gelijk.

Hmmm, woordje 'geleden' vergeten...
Biedt mij de gelegenheid ook nog even op te merken dat het trauma van de badmeesters en vooral -juffen heel herkenbaar is.
Van die Japanse worstelaarstypes die inderdaad bij het rugzwemmen met een haak aan je hals rukten en bralden: "Buik omhooooooog!!!"

Heee... Is het nu ineens weer verplicht??? Een aantal jaren hoorde ik nog van ouders dat het schoolzwemmen was afgeschaft en dat ze daarom genoodzaakt waren hun kind op privé-les te doen (inclusief onvermijdelijke wachtlijst). Kennelijk zit er nu weer ergens een topambtenaar die in zijn jeugd bijna verzopen is...

jamaar neemaar..ik bedoelde ook niet dat er iets af te dingen valt op priveezwemles maar dat er ook wel wat te zeggen valt voor verplicht schoolzwemmen . Dusch Op zich.

Ja psies claver. Maar waarom moeten kinderen die al op zwemles zitten dan OOK nog eens verplicht aan schoolzwemmen meedoen? En mocht men de zaak niet vertrouwen dan is er opk nog de mogelijkheid om een bewijs van dat eigen-zwemschooltje mee te geven. Zodat ze zeker weten dat mijn kind niet gaat verzuipen en schoolzwemmen ontloopt. (overigens kost dat fijne verplichte schoolzwemmen ook nog een fiks aantal duiten. Wel eens stilgestaan bij minder bedeelde ouders die dat MOETEN betalen? Of ouders zoals wij die zo'n kostbaar eigen zwemschooltje wel willen betalen maar daarbovenop niet OOK nog eens schoolzwemgeld. Want ik geloof dat jij ook wel weet dat bij ons het geld niet op de rug groeit. Dusch. Briesch.

En misschien is het óók leuk om te horen dat niet iedereen traumatische ervaringen heeft van het schoolzwemmen en met z'n allen tegelijk. Want dat kán dus juischt heel leuk zijn. (Waarmee ik verder niets wil afdoen aan het "verplicht" en "moeten" gedeelte in je verhaal trouwens.)

kwa reletivatie is het misshcien ook handig om even stil te staan bij de ouders die niet vinden dat hun kids in alle rust moeten leren zwemmen en die dat zwemdiploma verder worst zal wezen. Of priveezwemles niet kunnen betale. dat kan ook. Er zijn heusch best wel wat van dat soort ouders en het is dus maar goed dat dat schoolzwemmen verplicht is anders zouden er ws heel wat kinderen niet meer boven komen na een duik. maar dat dnek ik dan. En ik heb niet eens kinderen.
