In de afgelopen 2 maanden zijn er 4 Nieuw-Zeelandse familieleden 'overgekomen', waarvan er 1 bij ons logeert. De anderen zien we veelvuldig want voor je het weet zijn ze weer weg. Onder de 4 familieleden zijn mijn schoonouders. Mijn schoonvader is aan de oude kant. Mijn eigen vader is ook aan de oude kant. Als er met mijn eigen vader iets gebeurt dan spurt ik naar de trein en ben er in een kleine 2 uur. Als er iets met mijn schoonvader zou gebeuren dan duurt het minstens 3 dagen voordat iemand van ons ter plaatse kan zijn. Dan kan het ook nog eens te laat zijn. Dat is een angstig gevoel. Dus in de tijd dat de schoonouders in Nederland verblijven, zien we ze zo veel mogelijk.
Dat woord dus is raar. Alsof je vooraf zou kunnen sparen voor eventueel verlies in de toekomst. Slaat nergens op maar doen we toch.
Mijn zwager is ook 'over'. Hij crosst in een maand heel Nederland door om zoveel mogelijk indrukken in zich op te nemen. Hij ziet zijn familie, holt van verjaardag naar feest en belt dagelijks met zijn vrouw om alles door te nemen. De video staat constant in de aanslag. Hij spaart zijn Nederlandse familie, zijn neefjes. Hij spaart Marken en Volendam, Sneek en Maastricht. De zwager komt iedere 5 jaar en is jong van lijf en leden. De kans dat we hem niet terugzien is klein.
Bij ons logeert een neef van 23. Hij is gisteren naar Parijs vertrokken. Als je 23 bent dan ga je de hort op, dan spaar je ervaringen. Desnoods aan de andere kant van de wereld. Misschien staat hij over 10 jaar weer eens op de stoep om zijn vrouw aan ons voor te stellen. Die zien we heus nog wel eens terug.

Vandaag was het eerste afscheid. De zwager gaat woensdag weer terug en daarvoor zien we hem niet meer. Het contact tussen ons verloopt wonderlijk. Hij komt aan op Schiphol, we wennen een uurtje en vervolgens zit er geen wereld meer tussen. Het afscheid doet dus zeer. Hij is snel weer zo dichtbij en snel weer weg.
De logerende neef gaat volgende week dinsdag weer het vliegtuig in. Een logee in huis is niet heel erg lang leuk, maar nu hij in Parijs zit missen we hem toch. We dekken de tafel automatisch voor 5 personen en de kinderen vragen steeds waar hij is. En hoe dat nou moet als hij weer naar huis gaat. "Wanneer zien we hem dan weer?" Het afscheid zal voor hen lastiger zijn dan voor ons.
Mijn schoonouders blijven nog een maand. Aan hun afscheid ga ik nog helemaal niet denken. Dat is te naar en te eng. Wij gaan de komende maand nog gewoon erg van ze genieten. En vast heel hard nadenken over een passend verjaardagskadoo. Een die niet te zwaar, niet te volumineus en niet te onhandig is in het vervoer. Waarschijnlijk wordt het iets Heel Hollands.
