06/23/2002 Entry: "duifjes"

Mijn overburen zijn vanavond in de weer met borstel en sop. Vanaf hun balkonkast zijn gisteren de 2 jonge duifjes definitief uitgevlogen. De hele week hebben ze vliegles gehad en hebben daar met veel kabaal verslag van gedaan.
Vorig jaar stonden wij ook met zo'n borstel te schrobben. Weken in angst gezeten voor "uit het nest vallen", het geloer van de buurtkatten en of het allemaal wel goed zou komen. Het kwam goed.
Op het schoolplein trof ik die zomer een huilende moeder aan die die ochtend het nestje op haar balkonkast had laten ontruimen. De piepkleine duifjes waren in een zak gepropt en de ouders hebben nog dagen daarna verdwaasd rondgevlogen.
Ondanks stank, poep en algemene overlast is dat niet in ons opgekomen. We hebben de geboorte en opvoeding van de duifjes op de voet gevolgd.
Nu hebben we een net.
Zo'n donkerbruin tuin-net dat we om de balkonkast hebben gedrapeerd. Het ziet er niet uit maar wij hebben besloten geen onderdak meer te bieden aan duiven-families.
