Naar aanleiding van een aantal signeersessies van een door mij zeer gewaardeerd cabaret-duo kwam het hele euvel weer in mijn hoofd op: De Handtekening.
Ik weet niet wat ik er mee moet, met een handtekening. Zelfs van mijn meest grote idolen hoef ik geen krabbel op arm, cd of boek.
Dat blijkt behoorlijk vreemd, want iedere Echte Fan is op jacht naar die ultieme viltstift-kunst.

Ik maak het ook niet belachelijk, ik SNAP het gewoon niet.
Meestal is het een vaag gekrabbel (want al 1000 keer gedaan) op een voorwerp. En ik voel me er niet 'dichter bij mijn idool' door.
Misschien komt het wel omdat ik het woord FAN ook niet goed begrijp.

Kan iemand me eens serieus uitleggen waarom je een handtekening zou willen?
Waarom sta je daar uren voor in een rij, doe je dingen die je normaal nooit zou doen, en ben je er zo waanzinnig blij mee achteraf?

Tis alles valse schijn denk ik; suggestie van betekenis die er zelden werkelijk is. Het gaat denk ik ook niet om de handtekening zelf, maar om het feit dat je die zelf hebt gekregen. Vasthouden aan het moment; bewijs, zoiets. Op en neer gespring: 'kijk wat ik heb! Kijk wat ik heb! Een handtekening van HEM!!!'
Ik heb een T-Shirt waarop Youp van t Hek een boodschap heeft gekrabbeld; die zou me weinig doen als ik hem had gekocht, maar doet me nu heel veel door de gelegenheid waarbij die boodschap is geschreven.
