Geweldig! Hullie van de teevee hebben bedacht om iedere dinsdag na Ally McBeal en Sex &the City een serie uit te zenden over The Eighties.
The Eighties, dat is namelijk MIJN tijd!
Net op kamers, alles kon en alles was spannend. Bovendien werkte ik me ook nog het leplazarus in een zogenaamd Jongerencentrum voor HBO-studenten. Ik stond achter de bar, zat in het bestuur, programmeerde in m'n eentje de kleinkunstavonden (Brigitte Kaandorp voor 10 man), maakte de maandelijke affiches (leve de zeefdruk!) en in de zomer ging het hele personeel het terras op. Dat was de tijd van de Vierdaagse en de Zomerfeesten. Dat terras runden we samen met cafe 'Toon' van de buren. Cafe 'Toon' was een ultra fout cafe dus dat was nogal passen en meten met dat terras. Wij hadden bijvoorbeeld Goede Bandjes, zij van Toon hadden Frans Bauer-achtige bandjes. Dit alles gekoppeld aan aanverwant publiek en dronken Vierdaagse-gangers: Hoezee!
Ondanks de verschillen ging het altijd goed; 1 week hielden we het wel uit met z'n allen.
Na de zomerfeesten werd er eerst een hele dag puin geruimd en daarna gingen we eten bij de Joegoslaaf 'Du Brovnik' vlak bij het station van Nijmegen. Door schade en schande wijs geworden, werden we apart gezet in een hoek zodat we niet al teveel schade konden aanrichten.
En dan na 'Du Brovnik' werd het pas echt leuk, want wij gingen niet op welverdiende vakanties, neenee, wij gingen het Jongerencentrum verbouwen. Dat deden we ieder jaar zodat het publiek ieder jaar 'hun' stamkroeg na 3 weken in een nieuw jasje aantrof. Dat verbouwen deden we met net zulk naief enthousiasme als Peter Faber opbellen om te vragen of hij bij ons wilde optreden.
Niks alleen een ander kleurtje: gewoon plavuizen eruit, een nieuwe bar bouwen, de hele indeling veranderen, you name it. Allemaal zelf en allemaal zonder enige betaling. Ik geloof dat je voor een avond tappen 25 gulden kreeg maar dat was het dan. Maakte allemaal ook niks uit want we deden het Samen. En mijn god, wat waren we een hechte club vol intriges, liefdes, verkeerde one night stands, lief & leed.
Natuurlijk studeerde iedereen ook eens een keer af en kregen we echte stages en echte banen. En echte liefdes waarmee we gingen samenwonen. Vriendschappen verwaterden en de groep viel langzaam uit elkaar. Tijd voor een nieuwe club gekken die hun halve studententijd in een goedlopend centrum staken. Veel later is de HBO-Soos verkocht en is een 'echt' cafe geworden. Dertien-in-een-dozijn en gewoon betaald. Een lucratieve horeca bijbaan voor menig student.
Mijn 6 jaar durende tijd heb ik altijd wel op mijn cv gezet. Ik vond het namelijk altijd wel WERK. En tot 2 keer toe heeft die rare mix van aktiviteiten de doorslag gegeven mij aan te nemen in een totaal andere werkomgeving.
Vanavond in dat I Love the Eighties-programma hoorde ik het liedje waarmee bovenstaande herinneringen in een klap terugkwamen.

Ja wat was het fijn he? Voor mij zijn The eighties meer de middelbare schooltijd, ging pas in 1989 op kamers... Maar man man, wat een feest van herkenning!!!
