03/24/2002 Entry: "IJMUIDEN"

Verschillende stranden hebben we uitgeprobeerd. Egmond, Bergen aan Zee, Bloemendaal, maar het werd uiteindelijk IJmuiden. Bloemendaal hebben we het vaakst bezocht, omdat het daar betrekkelijk rustig was, maar sinds de bloei van dat mini-uitgaansdorpje voelden we ons daar niet meer zo thuis. Solaris en Woodstock zijn leuk voor ongebonden hipperds. Waarschijnlijk was ik er tien jaar geleden en kinderloos menig zaterdagavond te vinden geweest, maar op zondagmiddag met kinderen voelen we ons daar een beetje uit de toon vallen. Ze zijn er reuze vriendelijk maar wij kijken bezorgd naar onze vieze broeken, groene regenlaarzen en met vanalles besmeurde kinderkoppies.

Vorig jaar op het schoolplein sprak de moeder me aan: of we zin hadden om in de zomer op het zojuist aangeschafte strandhuisje in IJmuiden te 'passen'. We kregen de sleutels en als we zin hadden konden we misschien af en toe wat lichte opknapwerkzaamheden verrichten.

Het zei me niks, een strandhuisje. De eerste keer dat we er naartoe reden waren we niet onmiddellijk in halleluja-stemming. De weg naar het strand voert langs de Hoogovens en om eerlijk te zijn: er zijn idyllischer plekken in Nederland.

Maar toen we doorreden troffen we een zeer prettig zooitje ongeregeld aan. Visafslag, oude fabrieken, vage loodsen, wat winkeltjes en af en toe een woonhuis. Eenmaal bij het strand een grote parkeerplaats met slagboom (gelijk weer wat minder) een enorm hotel (hmpf) en een drukte van belang. 'Ons' huisje was te bereiken via een kronkelend pad over een duin en bovenop dat duin kregen we het ineens toch te pakken. Een prachtig strand! En een lange sliert witte strandhuisjes waarvan er 1 voor ons was bestemd.

Zo'n huisje is wel van hout maar eigenlijk is het gewoon een veredelde tent. Je staat vlak bij je buren en je hoort iedere kuch en boer. Bovendien kennen de bewoners van bepaalde strandhuisjes-rijen
elkaar van haver tot gort en verschijnen er rond 17.00 uur op ieders veranda flessen wijn en bakjes pinda's. Kinderen lopen bij elkaar in en uit en buurvrouwen kleppen bij elkaar de roddels even door terwijl de mannen gezamelijk de barbeque opzetten. Een camping aan zee.

Wij zijn daar niet zo goed in. Wij hebben onze handen vol aan elkaar en ik hoef eigenlijk ook niet zo opgenomen te worden in deze mini-gemeenschap.
En dan komt de kracht van dit IJmuidense strand: Dat hoeft namelijk niet. Er moet helemaal NIKS. Je hoeft helemaal geen hip badpak aan, je hoeft helemaal niet mee te borrelen bij je buren, je hoeft niet op elkaars kinderen te passen en gezamelijk te eten. Je moet vooral doen waar je zin in hebt als je maar 's ochtends voor 10 uur de wc-emmer leegt, je troep een beetje opruimt en af en toe eens een vriendelijke glimlach richting je buren werpt. En als je je daar een beetje in kunt vinden, dan heb je een wereldzomer.

Volgende week woensdag rijden ze om 7 uur 's ochtends 'ons' strandhuisje het strand weer op. Waar nu nog een hele grote open plek is, staat dan weer die hele lange sliert witte houten 'tenten' op poten.
Vanaf 7 april zijn ze bij Zeezicht weer open. Kunnen we weer visjes gaan eten, turks brood met tapenade bestellen in de keuken en zelf onze koffie-verkeerd maken.
Kunnen de kinderen in hun vieze kleren rondrennen zonder iemand daarmee lastig te vallen en olijven bietsen uit de keuken.
En als het weer een beetje meezit, dan zitten we begin mei op een zaterdag op 'onze' veranda naar de zee te kijken. Lezen we 's avonds bij kaarslicht en liggen om 23.00 uur in onze gammele bedden. Want het is ontzettend fijn om 's ochtends wakker te worden met het geschreeuw van de zeemeeuwen.
