Om heel eerlijk te zijn: ik twijfel nog steeds ontzettend. Het maakte voor de documentaire niet zoveel uit want afgezien van de zoektocht naar Sharbat, ben ik wat wijzer geworden over het dagelijks leven in Afghanistan.

Waar ik me wel weer aan irriteer is de consequente verwarring tussen impact en inhoud van de betreffende foto.
De inhoud is wat mij betreft: een heel mooi meisje met prachtige ogen. De impact ontstond doordat dit meisje gekoppeld werd aan een land in oorlog.
Had men bijvoorbeeld verteld dat dit een Russisch schoolkind was (nee, stom voorbeeld, want hoofddoek, afijn, u begrijpt wel waar ik naartoe wil) dan was de impact van de foto totaal anders geweest.
Steve McCurry heeft wel degelijk veel foto's gemaakt die qua inhoud iets zeggen over de barre tijden in Afghanistan. Geen twijfel over mogelijk: dit is een volk in oorlog. Maar daar hoorde deze foto nou net niet bij. Vind ik.

Afijn, het is ook niet erg. Dat Sharbat vanavond even een verlegen stem had maakte eigenlijk meer indruk. Want met wat ze te vertellen had, maakte ze in 1 klap een einde aan het romantische beeld van het meisje met de prachtige ogen. Niets romantisch aan een land in oorlog.

De vrouw lijkt een heel andere gezichtsvorm (scherpere jukbeenderen) te hebben dan dat jonge meisje (meer hartvormig gezicht?). De neus is ook anders, scherper bij de vrouw, vind ik.
